The Express Clydesdales
The Clydesdale horse is best know as a driving horse, a gentle giant with a willing nature and well suited for heavy work. Clydesdale is the orginial name for an area of Scotland now known as Lanarkshire, where eighteenth century farmers started to interbreed their native horses with Flemish stallions. This docile breed became known as the Clydesdale.
The reputation of the Clydesdale horse soon spread beyond the Clydesdale area of Scotland. The breed became standardized with the hiring out of stallions for stud. Breeders began to keep written pedigrees on their horses in the early 1800's.
As with many other breeds, breeding and showing are a large part of the Clydesdale business. Breeders exhibit their horses in the Scottish tradition of line and harness events at county and state fairs, and at national exhibitions.
The Express Clydesdales have been competing nationally and in Canada since 1999, bringing home world-class awards and international recognition like the ones listed below.
